摘要
網絡s have in recent years emerged as an invaluable tool for describing and quantifying 複雜系統s in many branches of science(1-3). Recent studies suggest that 網絡s often exhibit hierarchical organization, in which vertices divide into groups that further subdivide into groups of groups, and so forth over multiple scales. In many cases the groups are found to correspond to known functional units, such as ecological niches in 食物網s, modules in biochemical 網絡s ( 蛋白質 interaction 網絡s, metabolic 網絡s or 遺傳 regulatory 網絡s) or communities in 社會 網絡s(4-7). Here we present a general technique for inferring hierarchical structure from 網絡 data and show that the existence of hierarchy can simultaneously explain and quantitatively reproduce many commonly observed topological properties of 網絡s, such as right- ske
