摘要
It is generally accepted that 突變 rates of RNA 病毒es are inherently high due to the lack of proofreading mechanisms. However, direct estimates of 突變 rate are surprisingly scarce, in particular for plant 病毒es. Here, based on the analysis of in vivo 突變 frequencies in tobacco etch 病毒, we calculate an upper-bound 突變 rate estimation of 3 x 10(-5) per site and per round of replication; a value which turns out to be undistinguishable from the methodological error. Nonetheless, the value is barely on the lower side of the range accepted for RNA 病毒es, although in good agreement with the only direct estimate obtained for other plant 病毒es. These observations suggest that, perhaps, differences in the selective pressures operating during plant 病毒 演化 may have driven their 突變 rates towards values lower tha
