摘要
In this special section we propose an interpretation of the 湧現 and persistence of wealth 不平等 in premodern 族群s along with ethnographic and quantitative evidence exploring this hypothesis. The long-term trajectory of 不平等 in premodern societies, we suggest, is based on the differing importance of three classes of wealth-material, embodied, and relational-together with differences in the 傳播 of these types of wealth across generations. Subsequent essays in this forum use data on individual and household wealth from 21 族群s to evaluate this and related propositions concerning the interaction of wealth class, 傳播 rates, production systems (foraging, horti文化, pastoral, and agri文化), and 不平等.
