摘要

How, and to what extent, does the environment influence the way 突變s interact? Do environmental changes affect both the sign and the magnitude of epistasis? Are there any correlations between environments in the variability, sign or magnitude of epistasis? Very few studies have tackled these questions. Here, we addressed them in the context of viral 湧現. Most emerging 病毒es are RNA 病毒es with small 基因組s, overlapping reading frames and multifunctional 蛋白質s for which epistasis is abundant. Understanding the effect of host 物種 in the sign and magnitude of epistasis will provide insights into the 演化ary 生態學 of infectious 疾病s and the predictability of viral 湧現.
