摘要

There is concern that the rate of environmental change is now exceeding the capacity of many 族群s to adapt. Mitigation of 生物多樣性 loss requires science that integrates both ecological and 演化ary responses of 族群s and communities to rapid environmental change, and can identify the conditions that allow the recovery of declining 族群s. This special issue focuses on 演化ary rescue (ER), the idea that 演化 might occur sufficiently fast to arrest 族群 decline and allow 族群 recovery before extinction ensues. ER emphasizes a shift to a perspective on 演化ary dynamics that focuses on short time-scales, 遺傳 variants of large effects and absolute rather than relative fitness.
