摘要

Contact patterns in group-structured 族群s determine the course of infectious 疾病 outbreaks. 網絡-based models have revealed important connections between group-level contact patterns and the dynamics of 流行病學cs, but these models typically ignore heterogeneities in within-group composition. Here, we analyse a flexible 數學 model of 疾病 傳播 in a hierarchically structured wildlife 族群, and find that increased variation in group size reduces the 流行病學c threshold, making 社會 animal 族群s susceptible to a broader range of pathogens. Variation in group size also increases the likelihood of an 流行病學c for mildly transmissible 疾病s, but can reduce the likelihood and expected size of an 流行病學c for highly transmissible 疾病s. Further, we introduce the concept of 流行病學ological effective group size, which we define to be t
