摘要
Nonretroviral integrated RNA 病毒es (NIRVs) are genes of nonretroviral RNA 病毒es found in the 基因組s of many eukaryotic organisms. NIRVs are thought to sometimes confer 病毒 resistance, meaning that they could impact spread of the 病毒 in the host 族群. However, a NIRV that is expressed may also impact the 演化 of 病毒 族群s within host organisms. Here, we experimentally addressed the 演化 of a 病毒 in a host expressing a NIRV using Tobacco etch 病毒 (TEV), a plant RNA 病毒, and transgenic tobacco plants expressing its replicase, NIb. We found that a 病毒 missing the NIb gene, TEV-delta NIb, which is incapable of autonomous replication in wild-type plants, had a higher fitness than the full-length TEV in the transgenic plants. Moreover, when the full-length TEV was evolved by serial passages in transgenic plants, we
