摘要
For multihost pathogens, 適應 to multiple hosts has important implications for both applied and basic research. At the applied level, it is one of the main factors determining the probability and severity of emerging 疾病 outbreaks. At the basic level, it is thought to be a key mechanism for the maintenance of 遺傳 多樣性 both in host and pathogen 物種. In recent years, a number of 演化 experiments have assessed the fate of plant 病毒 族群s replicating within and adapting to one single or to multiple hosts 物種. A first group of these experiments tackled the existence of trade-offs in fitness and virulence for 病毒es evolving either within a single hosts 物種 or alternating between two different host 物種. A second set of experiments explored the role of 遺傳 variability in susceptibility and resistance to infection
