摘要
演化 by 自然選擇 is the conceptual foundation for nearly every branch of biology and increasingly also for biomedicine and medical research. In 癌症 biology, 演化 explains how 族群s of cells in tumors change over time. It is a fundamental question whether this 演化ary process is driven primarily by 自然選擇 and 適應 or by other 演化ary processes such as founder effects and drift. In 癌症 biology, as in organismal 演化ary biology, there is controversy about this question and also about the use of 適應 through 自然選擇 as a guiding framework for research. In this review, we discuss the differences and similarities between 演化 among somatic cells versus 演化 among organisms. We review what is known about the parameters and rate of 演化 in neoplasms, as well as evidence for 適應. We conclude that 適應 is a useful framework that accur
