摘要

Understanding how quickly pathogens replicate and how quickly the 免疫 system responds is important for predicting the 流行病學c spread of emerging pathogens. Host body size, through its correlation with metabolic rates, is theoretically predicted to impact pathogen replication rates and 免疫 system response rates. Here, we use 數學 models of viral time courses from multiple 物種 of birds infected by a generalist pathogen (West Nile 病毒; WNV) to test more thoroughly how 疾病 progression and 免疫 response depend on mass and host phylogeny. We use hierarchical 貝氏 models coupled with 非線性 dynamical models of 疾病 dynamics to incorporate the hierarchical nature of host phylogeny. Our analysis suggests an important role for both host phylogeny and 物種 mass in determining factors important for viral spread such as t
