摘要

Background: Metabolic dependencies between microbial 物種 have a significant impact on the assembly and activity of microbial communities. However, the 演化ary origins of such dependencies and the impact of metabolic and genomic architecture on their 湧現 are not clear. Results: To address these questions, we developed a novel framework, coupling a reductive 演化 model with a multi-物種 基因組-scale metabolic model to simulate the 演化 of two-物種 microbial communities. Simulating thousands of independent 演化ary trajectories, we surprisingly found that under certain environmental and 演化ary settings metabolic dependencies emerged frequently even though our model does not include explicit selection for 合作. Evolved dependencies involved cross-feeding of a diverse set of metabolites, reflecting constraints impo
