摘要
If they undergo new 突變s at each replication cycle, why are RNA viral 基因組s so fragile, with most 突變s being either strongly deleterious or lethal? Here we provide theoretical evidence for the hypothesis that 遺傳 fragility evolves as a consequence of the pervasive 族群 bottlenecks experienced by viral 族群s at various stages of their life cycles. Modelling within-host viral 族群s as multi-type branching processes, we show that 突變al fragility lowers the rate at which Muller’s ratchet clicks and increases the survival probability through multiple bottlenecks. In the context of a susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered 流行病學ological model, we find that the attack rate of fragile viral strains can exceed that of more robust strains, particularly at low infectivities and high 突變 rates. Our findings highl
