摘要
Early multicellular organisms must gain 適應s to outcompete their unicellular ancestors, as well as other multicellular lineages. The tempo and mode of multicellular 適應 is influenced by many factors including the traits of individual cells. We consider how a fundamental aspect of cells, whether they reproduce via binary fission or budding, can affect the rate of 適應 in primitive multicellularity. We use 數學 models to study the spread of beneficial, growth rate 突變s in unicellular 族群s and 族群s of multicellular filaments reproducing via binary fission or budding. Comparing 族群s once they reach carrying capacity, we find that the spread of 突變s in multicellular budding 族群s is qualitatively distinct from the other 族群s and in general slower. Since budding and binary fission distribute age-accumulated d
